CÉCILE & ÉMILIEN, FROM SAINT-JEAN-DE-VÉDAS TO MONTAGNAC
From the preparations in Saint-Jean-de-Védas to the evening at Domaine de la Grangette, this story follows the day in its real order, at the pace of Cécile, Émilien and their guests.
GETTING READY
Émilien buttons his shirt, adjusts his bow tie with someone close to him and laughs while putting on his waistcoat. Cécile finishes getting ready in front of the mirror; her dress is fastened by the window. I also photograph the bouquet and stationery, keeping these details alongside the people helping them before they leave.
FROM THE TOWN HALL TO THE CHURCH
At Saint-Jean-de-Védas town hall, Cécile and Émilien hold hands, sign the registers and kiss in front of their guests. Children are there too, including near the altar at the church ceremony that follows. I photograph the rings close up, then the exit beneath petals: different views of the couple’s gestures and the guests surrounding them.
COUPLE PORTRAITS AT DOMAINE DE LA GRANGETTE
Cécile and Émilien’s portraits take place along the tree-lined paths of Domaine de la Grangette. Trunks and foliage frame their walk; closer to the buildings, barrels and strings of lights change the backdrop. I suggest walking and moving closer together, then frame their expressions and hands. The location and a few concrete directions help them find their bearings in front of the camera.
COCKTAIL, FAMILY & CANDID MOMENTS
At La Grangette, the group portraits become more animated as friends and family lift Cécile, then Émilien. The photographs then show the chef at work, a toast and conversations between guests. I plan the groupings with the couple so people know when to come, while leaving room for ideas that emerge on the day.
DINNER & DANCING
Strings of lights cross La Grangette’s stone reception room. Cécile and Émilien make their entrance, sit down for surprises prepared by their guests, then take the microphone themselves. Dessert arrives surrounded by sparklers before the dancing begins. I photograph their reactions, guests on the dance floor and kisses in the middle of the party.
