EMILY & PIERRE-LOUIS
Emily and Pierre-Louis live in England. Their outdoor ceremony and evening reception took place at Du côté de chez Swann in Aix-en-Provence. The galleries open with the preparations and their first look. The couple portraits among the olive trees were made elsewhere, at their family property.
GETTING READY AND THE FIRST LOOK
Pierre-Louis buttons his shirt and adjusts his blue bow tie. With Emily, I photograph the makeup, necklace and bouquet, then her portrait by the house shutters. For their first look, Pierre-Louis waits with his back turned. Emily approaches, he turns around and they embrace. This sequence comes before their arrival at the ceremony.
THE SECULAR CEREMONY IN PROVENCE
Pierre-Louis arrives with his mother, then Emily joins the ceremony with her father. Beneath the trees, friends and family speak from a lectern set on a barrel. A close-up records the vows written in English; other photographs show reactions during the readings, hands exchanging rings and a kiss beneath the petals. The gallery ends with friends lifting the newlyweds.
COUPLE PORTRAITS AMONG THE OLIVE TREES
At their family property, Emily and Pierre-Louis walk between the olive trees, embrace and kiss. We also use the wooden railing and the poolside to vary the portraits. I guide their movement and position in relation to the light, then move between wider views and closer photographs of their expressions and hands. The series combines colour and black and white.
THE COCKTAIL & WEDDING RECEPTION
At Du côté de chez Swann, the first images bring together guests around drinks and canapés, followed by details of the table, including Pierre-Louis’s place card. Napkins wave above the tables as the couple enter. The cake arrives with sparklers, followed by their first dance and a busy dance floor. I also photograph their friends dancing and lifting Pierre-Louis into the air.
